Welcome to Uniport Masjid

The University of Port Harcourt Masjid, is a congregational place of prayer for the University Muslim Community. The University Masjid is the centre of community worship of the Five Daily Prayers (Daily Sallat), Friday Prayer Services (Jumu'at) and Islamic Meetings/Events.

Though the Masjid has been influenced by general donations from the Muslim Community (Ummah), the building has remained essentially maintained with the aid of Allah SWT.

The following rules are maintained in the Masjid premises;

  • Remove shoes first!

    When entering the Masjid, a person should take off his shoes or sandals. Entering the Masjid shall be done with the right foot first, while one utters blessings to Muhammad (SAW) and his family.

  • Talk softly, not loudly!

    A person inside the Masjid shall talk softly, not loudly, so that he or she does not disturb people praying. Kindly endeavor to also ensure your mobile phones are turned off or silenced during Sallat.

  • Dress Code

    Clothing should be modest for both men and women. Please refrain from tight fitting or translucent clothes. An Hijab is essential for sisters. An ankle length trouser is recommended for brothers.

  • Modest Conduct

    Do not offer, or expect, to shake hands with the opposite sex. Before entering the Masjid, Muslims are advised to perform wudhu (cleansing ablutions) if they have not already done so earlier.

Quotes from Prophet Muhammad (SAW)

A man asked the Messenger of Allah (PMUH): “Which act in Islam is the best?” He (PBUH) replied, “To give food, and to greet everyone, whether you know or you do not.” - [Bukhari and Muslim]

The Prophet (PBUH) said: “Envy is justified in regard to two types of persons only. A man whom Allah has given knowledge of the Qur’an, and so he recites it during the night and during the day; and a man whom Allah has given wealth and so he spends from it during the night and during the day.” - [Bukhari and Muslim].

The Messenger of Allah said, “When Allah wishes good for someone, He bestows upon him the understanding of Deen (Islam).” - [Bukhari and Muslim].
